Nothing makes us happier than helping our patients get healthier. Here’s what some of our patients have to say.
Dr Tobin did my rotator cuff and torn labrum repair, and I have had no problems. I have been very pleased with him as a surgeon, but he also helped me out with a life change. I had a serious medical issue, and I remembered from our 1st meeting some of his advice. He went over my shoulder procedure, and then asked about my weight. He was very quickly able to show and tell about weight loss advantages for health and well being. It wasn’t negative or demeaning, just matter of fact, including a graph he drew showing life expectancy and quality of life. I used this as one of my main reasons for losing 31 pounds so far. Thank you Dr Joe Tobin. Gary M
“Excellent Doctor and great and friendly staff.”

“When you are searching for an orthopedic surgeon, please do not think you have to go to Savannah, Charleston or anywhere else. The best orthopedic surgeon is right here on Hilton Head island. That person is Joseph P. Tobin. Dr. Tobin performed surgery on my left leg in 2006 for a shattered tibia. On 6/17/19, he did a total knee replacement on my right leg. (The left leg is in waiting.) I could not have asked for a better job. Looking at my x-rays, the perfect alignment was eye popping. Dr. Tobin’s staff, his precise surgical work, and my stay at Hilton Head Hospital were all one of the best experiences a person could ask for.”

“I chose Dr. Tobin as he had completed a fellowship program. I found him to be excellent. We discussed all options and talked openly about the pros and cons of surgery before the age of 70, and all options available. We tried non-surgical options first, and after 5 years I needed surgery. I was encouraged to continue the exercises from PT, His office took care of all the details. While in the hospital I learned that he did several things that other surgeons do not do. First, he puts in a drain, I was happy that the drainage was draining out of me, vs. being additional swelling in my knee. Secondly, when replacing the knee, cuts need to be made to the femur. While he is cementing in the new knee, he puts some cement in the opening of the femur which stops all bleeding coming from the femur. I followed exactly what Dr. Tobin said to do, which at 1-month post op I was with minimal pain and walking great without any assistance of a walker or cane.”
“I recently had my knee replaced by Dr. Tobin. Before the surgery I was unable to walk around the block. Now I am able to walk for several miles at a time. The recovery time was difficult but was worth all the work in the end. I am very pleased with the results. Doctor was very good through out the entire process.”

“Dr. Tobin replaced my right shoulder back in August and he just did my husband’s. Both surgeries were a resounding success. The things I liked most about Dr. Tobin were his patient centered practice (staff included) and the time he spent with both of us considering options.”
“I have been meaning to write this review for some time and just have not. Dr Tobin performed a reverse total shoulder replacement a little over 2 years ago. We tried physical therapy to see if it would restore movement. I tried really hard, but couldn’t move my arm above waist high. Surgery was needed. The surgery was explained thoroughly, performed mid-morning, went well, home the next morning. 1 pain pill on arrival home, 1 that night, no further pain meds were needed. This is the man to see.”
“Dr. Tobin performed a very complicated hip revision surgery on a 18-19 year old total hip replacement (this surgery was done by a different doctor in another state) in which the ceramic ball had fractured into many pieces. He told me it took close to 30 min. just to retrieve all the parts. A month after surgery I was walking 1 – 2 miles a day with only a cane and without any pain and I’m 81 years old. Yes, I highly recommend Dr. Tobin.”

“During a visit to Hilton Head Island in October 2015 I had a bicycle accident resulting in a broken left hip and left elbow. Fortunately, Dr. Tobin saw me in the emergency room and was available to repair the damage the next day. His surgical skills and post-op advice have done wonders for my healing.
When I returned home to southern California my family doctor referred me to an orthopedic surgeon who has the reputation of being one of the best in our area. He was very complimentary of Dr. Tobin’s work, based on both x-rays and my rapid recovery of functionality and range of motion.
In addition to his technical skills, Dr. Tobin has a caring personality and clearly answers any and all questions related to treatment and prognosis. I am happy to recommend him without hesitation.”

I met Dr. Tobin on the recommendation of the hospital where I had gone for emergency treatment after a serious fall. The pain was intense with much internal bleeding and I was to learn later from Dr. Tobin that I had badly torn much of my rotator cuff. My first appointment was abruptly short as Dr. Tobin examined me very quickly and advised I would have to wait until the bruising subsided. Frankly, I wanted to ask more questions at the time and was a little miffed. Then I realized how busy he was that day with a waiting room full of patients who needed attention more than I did. From that point on, after two surgeries and physical therapy over the next year and a half, I got to know Dr. Tobin much better. I found him to be very professional, very encouraging and full of hope for my condition (in spite of my age). I had arrived at his offices unable to lift my arm. Today I am back playing golf, back to boating, and generally can do most things I could do before my fall. The results have been beyond my expectations. I had once told Dr. Tobin, rather forcefully, that, “I wanted my arm back!”. He made no promises at the time, but he sure delivered! Thank you.
